Salinity is one of the environmental stresses that impose a reduction or delay in germination of seeds. Also it suppresses establishment and growth of both halophyte and glycophyte plants. Salad burnet has a lot of importance such as medicinal, ornamental and forage purpose. This research was carried out to estimate the salinity tolerance of Poterium sanguisorba at germination phase and seedling growth phase at the physiology laboratory of the Research Institute of Forest and Rangelands in 1388. Five NaCl level (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100 mM) treatments were used in three replication in a factorial experiment design based on completely randomized plots in growth chamber on Poterium sanguisorba. Usage of the above concentrations was due to lack of tolerance to higher salt concentration so that the first experimental treatments were zero to 200 mM, but the plants couldnot tolerate higher concentrations of 100 mM. Range of treatments were changed to 0 to 100 mM. Increase of salt stress led to increased germination percentage but decreased vigour index. Also the increase in salinity with 75 mM salt concentration on three month seedlings increased proline and soluble sugars, but the salt levels above mentioned were reduced the two indicators. Pigments (total chlorophyll, a, b, and carotene) with a growth rate and t relative water content with increasing concentrations of salinity decreased. In conclusion our results show salad burnet can for reclamation of lands with salinity up to 75 mM NaCl.

In order to evaluate soybean cultivars competition, an experiment was conducted as complete randomized block design with four replications at GaemShahr Agricultural Research Centre of Mazandran Province in 2009. Two cultivars (032 and sari) were row intercropping (4:0, 3:1, 2:2, 1:3, 0:4) planted using the replacement method. The results indicated that the greatest height of protein and oil percentage was obtained by 032 and Sari pure stands respectively. Also, the 2:2 planting ratios were recorded to produce the highest number of branch, number of pod per plant, number of seed per plant, and seed yield. Statistical analysis of LER revealed that seed yield in treatment 2:2 was 19 % higher than the pure stand. Eventually, the results of this study indicated that the impact of soybean cultivars in intercropping was of the mutual cooperation type.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects on some physiological parameters of pepper plants (Capsicum longum L.) exposed to UV radiation in the greenhouse. Pepper plants were grown in a uniform environment in a growth chamber and they were exposed to UV-A and UV-C radiation after 35 days for 15 and 8 days, respectively. In physiological aspect it was found that protein content have been affected and slightly decreased in both root and shoot exposed to UV radiation. The amount of soluble sugars was significantly decreased in shoot of UV-C treated plants but there were no significant changes in sugar contents in UV-A treated plants. Also, no significant changes were observed in sugar content of the root of UV treated plants. The present work shows that UV exposure increased the activity of APX and GuPX. The rise of GuPX activity was significant only for UV-C exposed plants but APX activity was significantly increased for both UV-C and UV-A exposed plants. MDA content was affected and slightly increased in plants exposed to UV. The rise of MDA in UV-C treatment was more than that of UV-A exposed plants. Dry weight in shoot of UV exposed plants was significantly decreased but this reduction was slight in root of UV-A and significant in root of UV-C treated plants. UV-C radiation significantly reduced number of leaves and lateral shoots per plant, but no significant effect was found in UV-A treated plants. The study shows that pepper plants are sensitive to UV and these findings give an insight into the physiological changes during UV exposure, and indicate the sensitivity of this plants to UV-C more than UV-A radiation.

To evaluate the genetic diversity, four wild wheat species named T. boeticum, T. thaudar, T. urartu, T. arrarticum were studied. Quantitative traits were measured according to IBPGRI. Analysis of variance showed significant difference for all landraces. Result of Pearson correlation analysis showed positive and negative significant correlations between some of the traits. In principle component analysis, four principle components accounted for 59.56 percent of total variation. The first principle component with 29% mainly explained stem width, spikelet length, radicle node length and width, glum length and width and seed width. The second principle component with 12% of total variation explained plant height and spikelet width. While, the third principle component with 10% of total variation, explained leaf number and node number. Moreover, the fourth PCA indicated SNS and seed length. Cluster analysis also classified the landraces into three groups which separated landraces according to species. Result of PCA confirmed the result of cluster analysis as T. arraraticum placed in separated group, indicating that this species is different systematically from other species.

This research was conducted to study the effects of gibberellic acid (GA3) and gibberellic acid (GA3) plus benzyladenine (BA) on the quality of two cultivars of Lilium L. hybrid ‘Navona’ and ‘Ceb Dazzle’. Lilium cut flowers were harvested when the first flower bud showed full color. The experiment conducted with ten treatments, including distilled water as control, three treatments of GA3 and five treatments of GA3+BA and one treatment was silver nanoparticles plus sucrose. Lilium cut flowers were pulsed in different solutions for 24 hours; then they were transferred to preservative solution including 2ppm silver nanoparticles plus 3% sucrose. GA3 200+BA 20 mg/l treatment were the most effective ones on the inflorescence longevity and relative fresh weight and flower water content of both cultivars. Moreover in cultivar ‘Navona’, GA3 200+BA 20 mg/l treatment increased water uptake and improved membrane stability index. GA3 200 mg/l treatment were the most effective treatment on retention leaf chlorophyll content. On the other hand in ‘Ceb Dazzle’ cultivar, GA3 100+BA 10 mg/l, increased water uptake, whilst GA3 200 mg/l was the most effective on maintaining membrane stability index and leaf chlorophyll content.

In this research the effects of planting dates and plant density on physiological indices of gladiolus were investigated. The experiment consisted of two planting dates (15 October and 15 November) and three plant densities (120, 100, 80 plants / m2) with two treatments and 4 replication. The objective of the work was to find out the appropriate planting time and plant density for the growth of gladiolus. Results indicate that early planting (15 October) and the highest plant density (120 plants / m2) increased leaf area, leaf area index (LAI), leaf area duration (LAD), crop growth rate (CGR), relative growth rate (RGR) and net assimilation rate (NAR) due to the increase in the number of plants per m2. But vase life and quality of cut flowers decreased in high plant density (120 plants / m2), due to competition between the plants for nutrition and absorbing the water. In conclusion, with increasing of plant density, the growth and vase life of gladiolus cut flower is decreased.

This experiment was carried out to study the effects of different planting methods and irrigation levels on yield and yield component of two wheat cultivars, in 2009-2010 in field´s of Ahvaz Shahid Chamran University. Experimental design was strip split plot within randomized complete block with three replications. Row factor was planting methods which include: basin, 3 line on the ridges, 6 and 9 lines on the ridges. Column factor was irrigation which included two levels: irrigation after discharge 25% and 50% plant available water in soil, and two cultivars that include Chamran and Stare were in subplot. Results showed that in planting methods, the grain number in spike, spike number per square meter and grain yield, were significant differences. Among planting methods, 3-line method was significantly higher in grain yield (3.62). 9-line method was significantly fewer number of spikes per square meter compare to other methods (28.58), while differences between other methods was not significant. Grain number in spike, basin and three line method, had significant higher than other method (33.89, 34.39). There was no significant difference between irrigation levels. In cultivars, Chamran cultivar in grain yield was significantly higher. Based on the results of the interaction between factors in this experiment, and status of drought and water shortages in the same test conditions, use of ridge planting method especially 3 line method with second irrigation level is recommended.
